    A life-changing call

In 1998, he met Steve Jobs while working as a supply specialist at Compaq Computer, the world's largest computer supplier at that time.

One day, he suddenly received an invitation to work at Apple. Even though the "defective apple" at that time was too small compared to Compaq, he still agreed to talk to Steve Jobs.

At that time, Jobs had just returned to Apple after more than a decade of leaving. The company was on the verge of collapse and had just begun its journey to recovery. The legendary iMac was not yet born and the iPod would take several more years to hit the shelves. Considering joining the "defective apple" company with Tim Cook is not as easy as it is now.

However, Cook saw it as an opportunity to talk to the originator of the entire industry he was pursuing. He has always believed that following the crowd is never a good thing, and Jobs showed himself doing things completely different. During the meeting, Jobs soon described to Cook the machine that would later be named iMac.

It only took a few minutes for Cook to be convinced by the strategy and vision of the Apple "captain". He himself was surprised by his decision.

Besides Jobs's personal charisma, Cook described what he observed during that meeting: "There was a light in his eyes that I had never seen in any CEO. Jobs's special ability was does things beyond conventional thinking. He focuses on the customer, not just the machine."

On August 11, 2011, Tim Cook received a phone call that changed his whole life. When he picked up the phone, Steve Jobs was on the other end of the line inviting him to visit his home in Palo Alto. Jobs is being treated for pancreatic cancer and recently underwent liver transplant surgery. He was very weak and needed to find someone to take charge of Apple.

Cook was officially appointed CEO of Apple on August 25, 2011. In fact, Apple was soon preparing to welcome Cook to take on this position. So did Cook's own preparations. Every element of his career and life later became key to running Apple.

When asked about Steve Jobs, Cook said that "Steve is the original" and only he could create Apple. This CEO also asserted that "If Steve Jobs were still alive, he would still be CEO."
